How to get wireless working in ubuntu by command line

Posted in Uncategorized by notoveryet on December 10, 2008

In my kubuntu installation, I was unable to configure the wireless network.

I don’t know, whether this was the problem of “knetworkmanager” or maybe I was doing something wrong…

but, I was sure by command line, I’ll be connecting in minutes…

so, I given try ten minutes of googling…and here I am connecting without any problem…

I am connecting to a other laptop  wirelessly..using ad-hoc mode..

and network is WEP based…

here are the commands worked for me:

sudo ifconfig wlan0 down

sudo iwconfig wlan0 mode ad-hoc

sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid “BIGNET”

sudo iwconfig wlan0 key ‘s:mykey’

sudo ifconfig wlan0 up

sudo dhclient wlan0

network name is : BIGNET

and the key is: mykey (5 ASCII)

that’s it,

after successful try, I have made a script which I keep in my home folder…

and just execute it whenever login..

simple, isn’t it…?

Questions or suggesions are always welcome !!!
